Chief Technology Officer


Seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead and manage all aspects of Technology as well as building out the technology team. The overall technology organization includes software development for new products, technical support of existing products, release management, onboarding of new clients, production infrastructure / Cloud management, corporate infrastructure and R&D.  The CTO will report directly to the CEO.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and seasoned IT professional with a strategic focus and a track record of successfully planning and executing a variety of technology initiatives.  This candidate must show a proven ability to strongly lead technology professionals and be a successful participant with the executive management team (EMT) is an absolute requirement.  Enthusiasm for high growth, dynamic environments is a must with a desire to have ownership of the entire Technology asset of company’s balance sheet.

The CTO is primarily responsible for leading the technology organization and managing priorities to deliver on the overall business goals defined in collaboration with company leadership. This includes determining the business requirements of Technology, defining product and technical architecture direction, recommending technological mechanisms to fulfill business problems and ownership of IT systems from concept through production. The CTO also effectively leads and manages personnel and projects in all areas of software and product development and IT operations. Other duties include predicting and assessing the financial impact of alternative IT expenditures, providing hands-on management and leadership for all Technology projects and participation in the day-to-day duties of the Technology organization.

Personnel supervisory responsibilities will include but not be limited to hiring, training, developing skills via performance appraisals, coaching, and directing work.


There are two primary roles for this position: (1) As the leader of the technology group; and (2) As an active member of the executive management team.   In the capacity of the first role, the candidate will operate tactically and have ownership, authority and responsibility for product delivery/quality, managing IT personnel, creating and executing to annual budgets and delivering technologies that support the business operation.  In the second role, candidate will operate more strategically and is expected to surface risks and solutions to the EMT and carryout the execution of the solution in the capacity of the first role.  Additionally, candidate may be invited to observe and participate at Board level meetings depending on the agenda.

Requirements include a minimum of 20 years of experience in a variety of technology-related positions, including a minimum of 15 years experience in a leadership position.  InsureTech and government contracting experience is prefered.

Budget responsibility for budgets of over $10m is highly desired. Must have strong Software engineering background and enterprise-level development/architectural experience. The most important requirement is a clear, proven track record of leadership of IT teams of all sizes, preferably in a startup environment.

Candidate will travel as needed, on average of 25%.
